The first edition covers October 2026 and will appear here in the first week of November. Each following month is added as the cities close their reports.
What the index measures
For each city we track, the index reports three numbers a month: new single-family home permits issued, all building permits issued, and the total declared construction value. The figures come straight from the permit reports the cities publish or release, counted the same way every month so they can be compared.
Cities publish on different schedules, so a month closes for the index when the last city's report for that month has arrived, usually by the end of the following week.
